Jitter is a major cause of distortion in digital systems, caused by mismatch in the clock oscillators used in digital-to-analog conversion. To combat audio degradation caused by jitter, Technics has developed a jitter reduction circuit that contains a noise conditioning clock to reduce low-frequency jitter and a high-precision sample rate converter to suppress high-frequency jitter. This reduces jitter over the entire frequency range. When used in conjunction with a unique precision PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) conversion module, this circuit can optimize noise generation rate, degree and number of requantization intervals, and PWM gradation, and convert high-resolution signals to PWM without sacrificing dynamic range. These technologies enable Technics digital amplifiers to deliver natural sound and reproduce the subtle nuances of music.

Active Distortion Reduction technology, recently developed by Technics, accurately extracts and eliminates output stage distortion that is generated as a result of speaker back-electromotive force and voltage drop. The hi-fi market offers many different audio systems that can be used with a wide variety of products, so high-quality audio amplifiers must be able to optimally drive a variety of speakers. Active Distortion Reduction technology quietly eliminates distortion by detecting the difference between the speaker output and the JENO output, and then applies correction to the digital output signal, thereby correcting the operation of a conventional digital amplifier system. This results in high power and acoustic energy, giving you the benefits of a digital amplifier such as low noise, accurate sound imaging and wide sound ambience, regardless of the types of speakers connected.

Advanced Speed Silent Power Supply

The SU-R1000 uses a switching power supply system to provide a stable supply of voltage and current required by the digital amplifier. In a conventional switching power system, the turn-on time of the switching operation was controlled to stabilize the voltage, which caused the switching frequency to fluctuate according to the load and, in turn, introduced modulation noise that degraded the sound quality. The Advanced Speed Silent Power Supply eliminates this noise by locking the switching frequency to 400 kHz. In addition, a low-noise regulator is located at the last stage. Thus, it prevents regulation deterioration due to the fixed switching frequency and prevents the noise component from being mixed into the high frequencies. The result is a highly responsive power supply that delivers excellent digital amplifier performance.

Four independent power supplies

In the SU-R1000, every element of the power system has been carefully studied and refined to provide superior sound quality. Moreover, four independent power supplies are provided for blocks of different circuits, which allows you to further improve the sound quality. Because the SU-R1000 is an integrated amplifier, its internal circuits consist of a preamplifier stage and a power amplifier stage, using both analog and digital circuits. The Phono-EQ section of the phono stage, which processes weak analogue signals, is particularly sensitive to noise transmitted through the power line. The SU-R1000 uses separate power supplies for the analog and digital circuits in the preamplifier stage. It also uses separate power supplies for the right and left channels in the power amplifier stage, which consumes a lot of power. With four independent power supplies, the SU-R1000 prevents power line-induced interference between circuit units, achieving high signal-to-noise ratio and excellent separation.

High quality digital/analog input/output circuit

The phono section and analog input section have fully discrete circuitry. Technics designed the perfect symmetrical contour and carried out careful tuning. New circuits prevent interference between the right and left channels and provide excellent channel separation. Additionally, the phono input section and XLR input section use fully balanced transmission to ensure the highest purity signal transmission is as quiet as possible. The USB input circuit in the digital input section features a high-quality ruby mica capacitor and a power regulator with non-magnetic carbon film resistors to block electrical noise, such as from a PC, and to minimize external noise. The ADC uses a high-performance chip manufactured by Asahi Kasei Microdevices (AKM) for high-precision analog-to-digital conversion. Thus, the SU-R1000 reproduces sound from any analogue or digital input sources with excellent quality.

Rugged housing and reinforced construction

The strength of the housing has been significantly increased to reduce vibration of the external panels, which are also a source of noise. Inside, the building is divided into two tiers. On the upper tier there is a power amplifier section, consisting of an amplification circuit and a power supply circuit. The lower tier houses the preamplifier section, which consists of an analog input section, including a phono stage, and a digital input section, as well as power circuits for these devices. The upper and lower tiers, as well as individual circuit blocks, are separated from each other by steel plates. These steel skid plates also serve as stiffeners to enhance the rigidity of the entire body. The front panel is 10mm thick, while the side panels and top panel are made of 6mm thick anodized aluminum plates. They also increased rigidity and vibration resistance. The anti-resonance feet are made of cast iron with excellent signal attenuation characteristics. Overall, the above parts and materials improve the quality of internal signals and effectively eliminate external vibrations.

Intelligent phono stage Phono EQ

The SU-R1000's Phono EQ smart phono stage uses the digital signal processing enhancement technology Technics developed during its work on LAPC to achieve high-quality sound not available with an analog phono stage. There are three components to this technology. 1. Accurate equalization curve. 2. Crosstalk suppressor. 3. Response optimizer. The user can enable/disable these features at his own discretion.

Precise equalization curve - made possible by a hybrid analog-digital circuit

The hybrid analog-digital system allows you to obtain an accurate equalization curve. A high-gain low-pass filter (LPF) performs analog processing, while high frequencies are boosted after A/D conversion. Using a 40-dB low-pass filter in the analog domain reduces bit loss during digital filter processing, and high frequencies are boosted with high precision in the digital domain to achieve high signal-to-noise ratio.

Crosstalk suppressor to measure and improve crosstalk characteristics unique to each cartridge

This function measures the crosstalk performance of the installed cartridge using the crosstalk measurement signal recorded on the calibration disk included with the SU-R1000. It then performs inverse correction using on-chip digital signal processing to achieve significantly improved crosstalk performance. This results in a more accurate sound image and a wider sound environment.

PHONO response optimizer to correct cartridge frequency distortion

This function measures the frequency response of the installed cartridge using a time-stretched pulse signal recorded on the supplied calibration disk and corrects for distortion in the response. It corrects the impedance matching effect between the cartridge and phono stage to reveal the true sound quality of the cartridge. This technology aims to improve sound quality by eliminating the need for a selector, such as a switch on a highly sensitive phono input line, to eliminate the possibility of noise interference.
